Scent Stack identifies the fragrances on your shelf from a photograph and analyses your collection. It has no accounts, asks for no personal details, and keeps your collection on your phone.

When you scan your shelf, the app resizes the photo on your device and sends it to our server, which passes it to Anthropic's Claude API purely to read the labels and return a list of fragrance names. We do not store the photograph, and it is not written to any database of ours. Anthropic processes the image to return that result under its commercial terms and does not use API inputs to train its models. Photographs are never shown to anyone, published, or used for advertising.
You can use the entire app without ever taking a photograph by adding bottles through search instead.
The bottles on your shelf, any notes you write about them, your chosen favourites and your onboarding answers are stored only in the app's storage on your own device. They are not uploaded, backed up by us, or visible to us. Deleting the app deletes all of it permanently — we hold no copy to restore, so export anything you want to keep before uninstalling.
To understand whether the app works, we record a small number of anonymous events — for example that a scan started, that a card was viewed or shared, and how many bottles were matched. Each installation generates a random identifier that is not linked to you, your device's advertising ID, your Apple ID, or any other identifier. We do not collect your name, email, location, contacts, or device fingerprint.
One event records the text of fragrance labels our scanner could not recognise, so we can add missing bottles to the database. This is brand and fragrance names only.
Analytics are stored on infrastructure provided by Supabase, our hosting provider. Our lawful basis is legitimate interest in operating and improving the app; the data cannot identify you.
Shelf photographs are held only for as long as it takes to return a result, then discarded. Anonymous analytics events are kept for up to 24 months. On-device data stays until you delete it or remove the app.
Under UK and EU data protection law you have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, and objection. Because the app holds your collection only on your device and our analytics are anonymous, most of your data is already entirely under your control — deleting the app erases it.
If you would like us to delete the anonymous analytics associated with your installation, email us and we will remove those records. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Scent Stack is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
If this policy changes in a way that affects how your information is handled, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
